Congratulations to Dagemaulit Mekonen, Jason Moriarty and Cain Powell who represented the school at the CIMA business schools quiz at Tallaght IT. They came eighth out of twenty six competing teams, which was a great achievement especially as they were missing one member in their group. Well done!!!
The Afterschool Cooking Club started back after the mid-term this Tuesday. We will be concentrating on festive cooking for Christmas. This week we made Holiday Honeycomb. The pupils couldn't believe how easy it was to make and how sweet it tasted. Anyone wishing to learn more about Christmas Cooking can see Ms. Hackett.
Every Monday the Afterschool Art Club meet in the pre-fabs behind the school. Pupils attending this club have fun with all art and paper craft. For the month of October they have been busy making decorations for Hallowe'en. They seem to be having fun. What do you think?
On Friday the 25th of October, the first year students were treated to a surprise hallowe'en party. The hall had been decorated by the afterschool social club with pumpkins, bats, spiders and ghosts for the festivities. Games such as bobbing for apples and snap apple were organised for the pupils who feasted on food and drink supplied by the School Completion Programme. We would like to thank Ms. Hackett and her sixth year helpers for making this a success.
The P.R.I.S.M Competition took place during Maths Week. We answered 20 multiple choice maths problems in one hour, without the aid of a calculator or any measuring devices. Everyone who took part did very well.
Transition Year students have planted Crocus bulbs to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust throughout World War II. The yellow flowers have six petals and resemble the yellow Star of David which Jewish people were forced to wear by the Nazis. The bulbs will flower each year - a symbol that we will not forget the people who were slaughtered in the name of evil. The bulbs will flower at the end of January to coincide with Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27.
Great fun was had by everyone who attended the Technology Rocks show as part of Maths Week 2013. Many thanks to Engineers Ireland for inviting us and to Scientific Sue, our wonderful host.

Well done to all the students and teachers who dressed up for halloween on the last day of term. A lot of effort was put into those costumes. Take a look at some of these photos from the day.
On Wednesday 17th October, the launch of the Yahoo/Ardscoil La Salle Mentoring Programme took place in Yahoo Head Office, East Wall Business Park. The event was attended by Mr. C. Mythen (principal), Ms. M. Hackett (school co-ordinator), Ms. M. Kenny (Business in the Community), Mr. D. McCarthy (Vice President, CEO Yahoo), Ms. A. Kehoe (company co-ordinator). All nine fifth year students were introduced to their mentors, and spent an hour chatting before going on a tour of the premises. They will meet every three weeks for the next two years. We are all excited by this new venture.
The Afterschool Cooking Club started Tuesday 2nd October. They meet every week in the Home economics room. The purpose of this club is to have fun cooking tasty dishes. We believe that it is as important to learn how to clean up after yourself and leave the kitchen cleaner than we got it. The club ends each week with everyone sitting down together and enjoy our food. This club is open to all first and second years. The first dish cooked this year was chicken curry. Everyone was pleased how well it looked and tasted.
