Thanks to  Yahoo Ireland  the 6th years on the mentoring programme had a yoga session on Tuesday 14th. Our wonderful mentors from Yahoo organised and paid for a yoga lesson for the nine pupils they mentor. They noticed that our pupils were rather stressed when doing their mock leaving cert in February and thoughtfully organised the lesson to help distress their mentees.

Antoinette gave the yoga class in the fitness studio on the balcony of the sports hall.

Mentors and mentees had great fun taking part in the lesson. It was timed nicely to follow their oral Irish exams. The instructor Antoinette planned a session that resulted in our students being relaxed and calm facing into the final push for the leaving cert exam in June. She showed them exercises that can be done again at home to unwind and calm down when overwhelmed and stressed by all the last minute revision.

We join our pupils in thanking staff and management of Yahoo EMEA  for providing this opportunity.

On 14th April the Transition Year students went on a site visit to the brand new EMEA Offices of Yahoo Ireland. The staff at Yahoo went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. Following refreshments, the pupils had a full tour of the premises and were treated to a detailed account and demonstration of the day to day work in each section.

The second part of the day was given over to Mock Interviews. Yahoo staff members made every effort to make them as realistic as possible, while keeping our pupils relaxed and confident. All agreed that they learned a lot from the exercise.

We wrapped up the day with lunch and a prize giving ceremony.

Our 6 winners for the best interviews were:

  • Segun Balogun
  • Lolo Mendez
  • Jack Brady
  • Cain Powell
  • Becky O'Connor
  • Rebecca Leech

Well done to each of you.

On Wednesday March 25th Mr C. Mythen (Principal) and Ms M. Dever (SCP liaison) joined other invited  dignitaries to celebrate the official opening of the new Yahoo EMEA Offices in North Wall Quay. The opening was performed by Mr Enda Kenny (Taoiseach) and Mr. Ken Goldman (CFO Yahoo International). We at Ardscoil la Salle wish or partners Yahoo every success in their new premises.

Tuesday 14th April will see our Transition Years have a guided tour of the stunning new offices.

The Transition Year STudents are busy completing the Skills@work programme with the Human Resource Department at Yahoo Ireland. This programme consists of the Company Overview, A Day in the life, CV workshop, Interview skills, Job Application, Mock Interviews and a Site Visit to the company offices.

We have been running this programme with Yahoo for over 10 Years and are delighted with the outcomes. Every year pupils seem to get more and more out of it.

Our 3rd, 5th and 6th year students enjoyed Lively Action Workshops with Fiona Cooper, one of the talented actors from Shakespeare's Globe Theatre London.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre works in partnership with a wide range of organisations to deliver projects which unlock Shakespeare's language, stories and characters for students of all ages. During our 3 workshops we explored the characters in Romeo and Juliet, the soliloquies in Othello and the use of language in King Lear.

Our CFES (College for Every Student) mentoring sessions began on Tuesday night. Our second year students had a great evening getting to know their mentors, the Trinity College Dublin students and graduates.

On Tuesday 20th January, a group of Junior & Senior Geography students, accompanied by Ms. McCabe, Mr. Kelly & Ms. McGovern visited the Coca Cola manufacturing plant in Lisburn, Co. Antrim.

In December we had our annual Ard Scoil La Salle panto. This year our Transition Year students put on a fantastic show which told the story of poor little Snow White sent away from her home by her wicked step-mother. Luckily she found safety with the all singing and dancing Dubs...and love in the arms of the "Hot Huntsman", who loved her too much to kill her!

Well done to all of the students involved. The hard work and commitment paid off.
More proof of the exceptional talent contained within the Della!
